TESTIMONIALS

"Since I started at the Museum, I have seen somewhere between 500 and 700 Music and Movement classes attended by tens of thousands of visitors. Your work brings so much joy to the Museum... I am grateful for getting to work with you and for everything I have learned from the amazing Little Groove teachers."

Steve Schroth - Boston Children's Museum

"The concert with Tommy and Little Groove brought South End preschoolers, parents, grandparents, nannies, preschool

classes and teachers all together for music in the SE Library Park. Tommy knows how to bring everyone together, and make room for all the happy dancing, singing, stomping little children, and the "grown-ups!"

One of their fav shoutouts to Tommy is, "Tommy, talk to your guitar!!" Tommy talks to his guitar, and his

guitar talks back!! The children love it!"

Margaret Gardner - South End BPL Librarian

Little Groove in Preschools

Little Groove loves to work with numerous Boston area preschools. If your school would like to receive information on bringing Little Groove music classes or a special event to your school, please fill out the Inquiry Form below.

Little Groove music classes are designed to enhance preschoolers' and early elementary school children's learning music experiences through sound, sight, and touch within a dynamic live music setting. These classes actively engage children, incorporating their bodies and voices into the musical experience, fostering essential motor, social, cognitive, and language skills through interactive and captivating songs.

Students will enjoy playing real instruments such as drums, maracas, and tambourines. Through hands-on activities with drums and other percussion instruments, children grasp the foundational elements of rhythm, such as beats, tempo, and patterns. These engaging lessons are designed to make learning fun and interactive, allowing children to experiment with creating their own rhythms and understanding the structure of songs.

By exploring the basics of music theory, children become familiar with essential concepts like melody, harmony, and dynamics. This comprehensive approach not only enhances their drumming skills but also builds a solid foundation for future musical endeavors, fostering creativity, discipline, and a lifelong love for music.

In each Little Groove class, each activity is tailored with specific learning objectives. Children will develop and refine skills such as:

  • Drumming skills

  • Basic rhythm

  • Basic music theory

  • Counting

  • Identifying colors, shapes, body parts, and animals and their sounds

  • Fine-motor skills

  • Gross motor skills

  • Hand-eye coordination
